In the United States, two more major names in the world of global shipping, UPS and DHL Express, have joined FedEx and USPS in raising shipping rates.

The two companies announced price increases on the same day.Atlanta-basedUPS is introducing a 4.9 percent increase from December 31 for its ground, air and international rates and air freight within and between the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

DHL will do the same for US customers, with an average price increase of 3.9 percent from January 2, 2014.

UPS’s rate increase matches the 4.9 percent seen last year, while the increase for air services is a little steeper than the 4.5 percent of 2012.

Its customers will also be charged more for correcting or changing an address, confirming a delivery, collect on delivery and handling surcharges, along with specific pickup options and area surcharges.

According to the US $54 billion company, its annual price increase takes account of inflation and rising costs for shipping to more than 220 countries and territories globally.

FedEx Express will be raising shipping rates an average of 3.9% from January 6, 2014. The company has not yet revealed details of FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx SmartPost rate changes.

USPS will be raising its prices for competitive package and express services by an average of 2.4 percent from January 26, 2014.
