The contract awarded to Trans Ocean, a subsidiary of Hillebrand Group that specializes in wine bulk liquid logistics, is the largest of its kind in Europe.
The agreement builds upon the existing working relationship between the two companies.
Under the contract, Trans Ocean will manage both bulk and cased wine movements from Europe and the New World into Constellation Park, Avonmouth. The majority will be moved by rail from various UK ports.
In a bid to reduce carbon emissions, the new services will utilize a dedicated rail connection to transport containers from southern and eastern UK ports to Bristol, thus eliminating one million road miles.
The rail service provides an efficient, streamlined supply chain to Constellation Park, allowing Constellation to utilize faster shipping services into ports that connect to the rail network.
Freightliner subsidiary Logico and Trans Ocean have signed a three year contract that involves seven trains a week from ports in the southeast. These services will carry an equivalent of 8.96 million bottles each week into the Constellation facility via Trans Ocean’s VinBulk Flexitanks.
In addition, Trans Ocean is providing Constellation with two mechanical Mobicon straddle carriers to simplify bulk container handling at Constellation Park. The equipment will be used to move containers from chassis on arrival to the holding area and discharge points within Constellation Park.
