The Corporate Information Transparency Index (CITI) has released its Green Supply Chain Index detailing the top green supply chains of brands operating in China

Developed by the non-governmental Beijing-based Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the rankings are the result of independent environmental management evaluations of brands across 16 industries.

CITI’s evaluation criteria include: “responsiveness and transparency, compliance and corrective action, extended green supply chain practices, energy conservation and emissions reduction, as well as performance disclosure.”

The top 10 is as follows:

1.    Apple
2.    Dell
3.    Levi’s
4.    C&A
5.    Nike
6.    Primark
7.    H&M
8.    Samsung
9.    Inditex
10.    Target

CITI’s leading brands implement supply chain environmental management practices into their respective sourcing standards, the statement said.

It adds that Apple, for example, is engaged in an ongoing partnership with IPE that aims to identify opportunities for advancement in environmental performance.

The American tech giant’s suppliers all share annual environmental monitoring data via IPE’s platform to evidence continued implementation of improved standards.

In addition, the statement notes that Dell analyses data from its Chinese suppliers to assess the environmental impact of its supply chain with a focus on mitigating the release of chemicals into the environment, and said in its FY18 Supply Chain Sustainability Progress Report that it is training suppliers to this end.
