Navigating volatility

Throughout the last year, ongoing volatility has shaped supply chain operations. US tariffs, inflation, climate change, AI and conflict have all had their impact on how supply chains work. Constantly changing environments have meant that businesses need to prepare for turbulence, creating multiple solutions, risk mitigation strategies and stronger relationships.

Through AI, digital tools and supplier relationship management, businesses are forming more resilient supply chains. The implementation of digital twins allows businesses to trial run solutions, without the cost of a failed project. Other organisations have seen the benefit of increased transparency throughout their tiers, helping them gain insights before issues can become a larger disruptor.

In the PwC 2025 Digital Trends in Operations Survey, 91% of organisations cited US trade policy as a major catalyst for reshaping supply chains. Alongside this, 87% cited a correlation between rising geopolitical tension and the push for more flexible, adaptive operations built on technology-enabled responsiveness.

Leaders are understanding the need to develop resilience, with an ongoing push for investments into agility in order to avoid succumbing to risk.
