The new eco-containers are manufactured with non-wood composite flooring, called Eko-Flor.

The CMA CGM Group has a strong commitment to environmental protection and was the first company to launch bamboo floored eco-containers back in 2005.

For several years now, the company has been implementing modern eco-conception techniques in order to mitigate the impact of container floorings on rainforest deforestation.

“We are pioneers in the development of eco-containers and we hope we will validate this test rapidly to be able to expand our fleet with eko-flor containers,” said Alexis Michel, senior vice president, container logistics.

The Eko-Flor container flooring was developed by Conforce International in partnership with Bayer. It is made of advanced reinforced compound material.

Eko-Flor is a low weight flooring solution which reduces energy in transportation. It is also resistant to water, odor, oil and microbes.

In addition, the re-usable and recyclable floor increases container service life.

The new light steel containers are manufactured with highly resistant high tensile steel that allows a gain of 550kg per 40’ High Cube container, again reducing the energy used for transportation.

The Group will be running tests for the next six months while the containers are deployed on the Asia-Europe lines.
