Maersk Line has said it will be running its own feeder service from Salalah in Oman to Qatar to overcome the current ban on ships calling at Qatar imposed by neighbouring countries in the Middle East.

Last week, Maersk said it has stopped transporting goods in and out of Qatar as a result of the ongoing rift between the tiny Peninsula state and a number of other GCC countries.

However, the world’s largest container shipping company said it would be looking to offer customers an alternative route, and has announced a new service.

“As promised, we are pleased to bring to you a solution for your Qatar cargo,” said Maersk in a statement.

“We have now opened acceptance of cargo to/from Qatar to be transshipped over Salalah.”

The first sailing ex-Salalah is on 19th June 2017 and arrives Doha 25th June 2017, with a service to sail every 10 days. Prices for the service are to be announced next week.

“Booking acceptance for cargo to/from Qatar is open for all countries except UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen in compliance with the government guidelines,” Maersk added.
