Food giants Cargill & Olam combine on supply chain platform

Major food and agriculture companies have launched a platform to allow users to report traceability and sustainability performance across industry supply chains.

Developed by and for the food and agriculture industry, TRACT is the result of a collaborative effort of 30 companies committed to driving positive change.

These companies include Archer Daniels Midland, Cargill, Louis Dreyfus and Olam, who provided the initial funding and talent for TRACT, and worked with other companies and non-profit organisations to develop a digital platform that uses common metrics and methodologies.

TRACT was founded to meet challenges faced by the food and agriculture sector, including the vulnerability of long-term supply chains, strict sustainability goals set by stakeholders and growing public and legislative pressure for greater transparency.

The founders say the platform will help meet these challenges and accelerate food and agriculture system transformation, by improving transparency from growers to retailers across industry supply chains.

Roel Van Poppel, TRACT’S Co-founding CEO, says: “This initiative has been a catalyst for significant cross-industry innovation on a global scale. Olaf and the Eversheds Sutherland team have become an extension of our own throughout the last two years, helping to secure important legal firsts while helping to make this initiative a success.

“Their tenacity to secure the very best outcome for us as a client is admirable and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them.”

Avery Dennison offers Euro DPP service

Avery Dennison has launched DPP as a Service (DPPaaS) to help brands fully prepare for forthcoming EU legislation on Digital Product Passports (DPPs).

Avery Dennison is a global digital-identification solutions specialist that provides, among other things, RFID inlays and tags.

Burton Snowboards is the first customer to use the company’s new service, which provides brands with a holistic approach as they prepare for DPP. DPPaaS is a part of Avery Dennison’s larger digital-solutions portfolio, which connects the physical and digital worlds through its labelling cloud platform, atma.io.

The phased introduction of DPP will be driven by the European Commission’s Circular Economy Action Plan from 2027 for sectors including apparel and textiles, batteries and electronics.

Through atma.io, Avery Dennison tracks 30 billion items across the supply chain for global brands, “capturing information that will be vital for DPP, including carbon footprint data, origins of materials, and re-use instructions”, the company says.

CrimsonLogic launches two logistics solutions

Global trade technology company CrimsonLogic has announced two new solutions for the North America market.

Its Regulatory Filing solution allows users to automate, manage and clear import and export customs declarations globally, especially in Asia.

Its Logistics solution, meanwhile, “fosters seamless integration between shippers, ocean carriers other logistics service providers to catalyse digital transformation”, the company says.

It adds: “Together, CrimsonLogic's two new solutions provide enhanced efficiency and convenience to the broader market.

“Regulatory Filing streamlines customs declarations across multiple channels and Logistics simplifies ocean freight management processes. Using both, businesses and individuals will be able to better manage their shipping needs.”
