P&O Ferries: Sailing into the Future Alongside Netcompany

Shipping giant P&O Ferries has been able to count on Netcompany as a strategic partner and advisor for its digital transformation journey

Like numerous peers, P&O Ferries is an organisation which remains steadfast in its bid to carry out an effective and impactful digital transformation.

Fortunately, since 2022, the shipping company has been able to count on Netcompany as a strategic partner and advisor for this bold IT transformation journey.

It’s a fruitful relationship that looks set to continue as P&O Ferries initiates its legacy replacement programme, enabling the logistics leader to deliver solutions and capabilities that set it apart in the market – while removing the risk of changing its core ERP.

“Modernising our legacy systems is a key part of remaining competitive in the fast-changing ferries landscape,” explains Chloe Friend, CIO at P&O Ferries.

“Netcompany has proven over the years that it prioritises service delivery at scale, and has the innovative technology to enable current and future operations-sensitive initiatives.”

Improving business efficiency at P&O Ferries

The next stage of P&O Ferries’ collaboration with Netcompany will see the IT services consultancy implement its PULSE platform to build and safely deliver a minimum viable product (MVP). This is set to provide an integration layer for both legacy applications and a new suite of business applications – currently being implemented.

By taking a layered, step-change approach, P&O Ferries can prove capability in the new applications suite before decommissioning legacy applications, and stands to benefit from increased control and opportunities for feedback at each phase.

It’s hoped the PULSE platform will enable better process and workflow digitisation to improve business efficiency and, in the long-term, facilitate the use of emerging machine learning and AI-powered solutions.

Once successfully delivered for a specific ferry route, the MVP is to be rolled out across all seven of P&O Ferries’ major routes situated between Britain, France, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium, until the firm is ready to fully decommission remaining legacy applications.

Facilitating complex digital transformation

With almost 8,000 creative employees based in 10 countries, Netcompany has become a leading European end-to-end IT services company.

Founded in 2000 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the business helps European public and private sector customers accelerate their delivery of ambitious, complex digital transformation journeys.

Expanding on his organisation’s close ties with P&O Ferries, Damien Venkatasamy, Partner at Netcompany, says: “The most exciting part of this legacy replacement programme is the opportunities it opens for P&O Ferries in the future.

“Using PULSE as a platform means P&O Ferries will be able to maximise and streamline any new technological, data-driven innovation or sustainability efforts it may want to initiate in the future.”
